Templeton Foundation Grant Awarded to Rev. Dr. Dennis Billy

Rev. Dr. Dennis Billy,  Karl Rahner Professor of Catholic Theology at the Graduate Theological Foundation, discovered, on July 3rd, that he will be the recipient of a grant from the Templeton Foundation in excess of $200,000.  It is a three-year grant for work involving examining the links between the spiritual and moral lives.  It will involve writing a book, creating a DVD series, constructing a website, producing a series of massive open online courses (MOOCs), training directors according to a particular model of spiritual direction, and conducting a directed retreat.  Although rooted in the Catholic tradition, it will seek to find ways in which the approach can be adapted to those belonging to other religious, philosophical, and ethical traditions.

Dennis and I were in the same D.Min. in Spiritual Direction class at GTF. His contributions in class were uniformly calm, deliberate and insightful. I will look forward with much interest to learning more about his endeavors.
