Rev. Salvatore DiStefano
Roman Catholic Priest
GTF Ed.D. 2007 Psy.D. 2013
Father Salvatore DiStefano, Chaplain at Oratory Prep School and Deputy Chaplain for the American Association of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta, with the Ecclesial Endorsement of His Eminence Joseph Cardinal Tobin, Archbishop of Newark and His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Principal Chaplain of the American Association and the appointment by the Sovereign Council of the Order in Rome, has been invested into the rank of Chaplain of Magistral Grace.
The investiture took place at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City on November 3, 2017. The ceremony was presided over by Archbishop Jean Laffitte, Prelate of the Order of Malta. Priests who are invested in the Order of Malta as Chaplains of Magistral Grace are created titular Canons of the Order and are accorded the honorific title of Very Reverend Canon.
The Order of Malta is the oldest order of chivalry in the Roman Catholic Church. Founded in 1099, the Hospitallers, as they were then known, provided both hospitality and defense for pilgrims in Jerusalem. From their earliest days, they have shown particular concern for the welfare of the poor and the sick. The Order’s international headquarters is located in Rome. The Order of Malta has diplomatic relations with over one-hundred countries and is a permanent observer at the United Nations.
Best wishes to Father Sal on his elevation to Chaplain of Magistral Grace and as he continues to serve as our School Chaplain at Oratory Prep.
